The production of modular construction units could be the next important niche for Slovenian industry.

Modular construction is becoming an ever more relevant trend for the future of construction. Slovenian companies offer various types of modular units for residential, commercial, and industrial use. REM from Trebnje is one of the best fast-growing companies in Slovenia and produces over 4,500 modular units annually for residential use and schools. REM employs around 300 people and makes over 42 million euros of sales, mostly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other European countries. Modular units for residential use are also sold by Adria Dom, the daughter company of major European camper manufacturer Adria Mobil, Marles, the largest local manufacturer of prefabricated homes, and by smaller family-owned companies like Kvadra mobil and Hrovat.

Arcont from Gornja Radgona sells over 15,000 containers annually, mostly for commercial use, nursery schools, and hospitals. The company with 850 employees is a part of Austrian Walter Group and sells its units under the brand Containex. Trimo from Trebnje, the leading producer of envelope solutions, offers modular units for education, commercial and industrial use: its units are used also in military and relief operations. Several other smaller companies also offer modular solutions for industrial buildings. A joint venture of five companies called Model+ construct modular smart army barracks. The advanced technologies developed for this project hold substantial potential for adaptation to civilian applications.
